Since January 2018 any person may claim 10 cents for recycling a can or bottle in NSW.
The refund is payable even if the label says only "SA/NT". This is because many containers remain in circulation and can be bought which do not yet have on them the letters "NSW". The container photographed for this blog was purchased on Thursday 15 February 2018.
Squished or crushed containers can't be refunded.
At the date of this blog, 19 February 2018 - some six weeks since the new law began to operate - the government website says "98,495,946" containers have been recycled.
