Lab test shows rainwater is safe to drink in the heart of Sydney city

Lab tests of rainwater at my house have shown it’s clean as a whistle.

Tests in September, 2016 for ecoli, faecal coliform and total suspended solids all came back with nil detection.

Every few years I check the rainwater for bacteria and heavy metals.

For 20 years it’s been clean and delicious to the taste.

18 months of fortnightly testing when the system was installed in 1996 showed similar results.

Reassuring that, right here in the heart of the city of Sydney, my rain water remains cleaner than town water.

Here the rainwater is used for drinking, cooking, hot water, showers, baths.

The waste water is recycled to flush the toilets, wash clothes and hose the garden.  Over 2 million Australians drink rainwater every day.

Full testing details are in my book, Sustainable House (2Ed, 2010); available for purchase  -  or in bookshops.
